Once upon a time, there were three cats. A loner named Dusk, a kittypet named Sunny, and a rogue named Night. These three cats had never met but they all had one thing in common. They'd always felt that they were meant for MORE than this. More than this mindless wandering, more than being a twoleg's pet, more than fighting for every scrap of prey.
One day they started having dreams. Dreams of companionship, of adventure, but most importantly, a large rock. No matter where the dream started or what happened in it, they always ended on that boulder, gleaming in the light of the full moon. There was never any voice, but they all got the sense that they were supposed to go there.
So they did. That's where they met each other, and that's where they met Moon. Moon was the only descendant of what was once the four great Clans. She'd been waiting for them, so she could pass on what she knew before she joined her ancestors in the sky. So for half a moon, they learned under her. They learned the warrior code and the ways of the Clans. Finally Moon passed away, sure that her students and friends could finish what she'd started.
But it wouldn't be that easy. The three companions couldn't agree on who to follow, and soon they were arguing more and more until finally they went their separate ways, each to start their own Clan. DuskClan, started by Dusk, lived in the forested terrain. He believed that the most important thing was safety and an easy life, where no cat had to worry about starving or dying alone. He welcomed every cat who wanted to join.
SunClan was started by Sunny. They made their home by the streams and rivers. She, in wanting to do things right, was the most traditional of the three. She would do things the way Moon had taught them, and would only accept cats who would follow that one rule: Clan above all.
The final Clan, NightClan, had a very different philosophy. Life had made Night hard. He knew things wouldn't be as easy as the other two thought. NightClan live in the more mountainous area, where the ground was hard and surviving was harder. He would only take cats that could take it, and those that couldn't were turned away.
The three Clans would join together every full moon in the Moon Glade, named for the friend that had brought them together. Now, only a few generations later, the Clans live together in a tenuous peace. How long will that peace last, though?
